Hi! :D  I'm a long-time internet friend of Nathanael's.  In his most recent journal, he shared your account on DA, and I immediately came over to watch you.  :)

You're learning to draw digitally?  Best wishes!  It can be difficult at first, and very rewarding once you feel comfortable with it.  I'm excited to see you progress :)

What is the most exciting thing you've yet found about drawing digitally?  What about the most challenging?

Aww thank you!  That's sweet.  I'm actually learning how to color digitally.  Nathanael is still the one drawing : )  I hope you don't mind just watching me learn how to color.
In answer to your questions:
The most exciting thing about coloring so far has been bringing life to the characters.  I think a lot of personality is defined through color, not just line-art, even if the coloring is cliché at times.
The most challenging thing would be shading.  I haven't found a style of shading that I enjoy doing, I'm not as fast at shading as I could be, and sometimes I'm not even sure that I have the lighting right.

Ah, that's why the line art seems so familiar!  :)  You're doing quite excellently for first learning how to draw digitally!

Lighting is what really makes a piece come to life.  Have you tried saving a base and experimenting with different approaches (highlights and then shadows, shadows and then highlights, etc.)?  I've learned that for me it is easier if I do highlights first and then shadows, and then pin-point highlights.  Weird, huh? :)

I'm glad you're enjoying it thus far!  Good luck as you find what is best for you~
